About the artist

Alexandre Folgoso. Galiza, Spain (1996).

Alexandre Folgoso (Galiza, 1996) is a photographer as well as a language and photography teacher based in Berlin. Immersed in the capitalism of the image, Alexandre advocates for analogue photography as a means to counter the fast-paced times of the digital era. Specialising in cultural and literary studies, they play particular attention to the intersection between photography and literature while scrutinising the ambiguous relationship between photography and truth, questioning the authenticity and reliability of both mediums. Alexandre Folgoso's deeply personal work explores the human condition, notably exploring questions related to gender identity, memory and fiction.

Their work has been exhibited in several solo and group exhibitions. Their project “A soidade das árvores" was selected in the Novos Valores competition organised by the Diputación Provincial de Pontevedra (2019). Alexandre’s individual exhibitions “Máscaras” (2020), “Masks will fall in the night” (2021), “Corpos e territorios” (2021) and “Pássaros de prata” (2022) were shown in solo exhibitions in several galleries and exhibition spaces across Portugal and Spain. Their work was also a part of the last Emotiva Festival in Barcelona; `Postepisteme. Dissidències, argumentaris i transicions’ (2022).

Their work has been published in specialised media, such as Caleidoscópica (Galician Journal of Photography) or Contrafotografía, as in numerous independent publications such as the fanzine Galiza Nación Cuir. In 2021, they published their first photobook  "Punto de ignición" in a collaboration with the Galician Poet Carlos de Aira.
